OMEGA League is the first tournament where Natus Vincere get to compete with their new captain, Alexander “Immersion” Hmelevskoy and only the second for their new mid lane player, Nikita “young G” Bochko. Unfortunately, they are already relegated in the Divine division with an overall 1-4 series score in Group A of the Immortal division.
As they are now preparing for the redemption road through the Divine competition, NAVI released this past weekend the very first interview with young G, which is an opportunity for the fans to learn a bit more about the up and coming mid laner.
The interview starts of course, with the very first question addressed to any newcomer, “how did you discover Dota,” and young G’s story is not very different from most of other players’:
“When I was 6 years old I had a PC that was used by my brother. He was 12 at that time and he was playing DotA 1. I enjoyed watching it, however, I wasn’t allowed to play until I was 7 and that’s when I decided I wanted to play DotA 1. I didn’t understand a thing, but it looked fun. I was learning step by step, I started buying items, using skills, but I’d often give up on it. After a while, Dota 2 came out, but I didn’t know about it until it became free to play. Then, one summer I was bored and I downloaded it. I played about 5 games and I realized I didn’t like it and I quit. Then the Free To Play documentary with Dendi was released. After watching it, I discovered The International and that you could actually get good at the game. So, I tried to learn and eventually I ended up here, through pain and tears.”
Asked what he would be doing today if it wasn’t for Dota young G said “lots of things: I would write music, ride cars, enjoy my life.” When talking about players who inspired him, he, of course, mentions Danil “Dendi” Ishutin as his very first idol, but he admits that later on, he started to look up to Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan
When it comes down to role choice, young G explained that he wanted to play in the mid lane because “it’s a difficult role that requires a lot of skill and thinking.” “Mid heroes are all active and you can always have an impact on the game with them in any stage. It’s a 1v1 lane, which is great. You don’t need to rely on anyone but your skill,” he added
The interview covers a lot of other topics, including family, girlfriends, his passion for music, the balance between private and public life, young G’s favorite TV shows and anime series and you can watch it fully, with English subtitles here.
You can also watch NAVI and young G returning to the OMEGA League action later today, August 31 with a best-of-three series in the Divine division upper bracket quarterfinals against HellRaisers. The match-up is scheduled to start at 20:00 CEST.
