19-year-old female CoD: Mobile professional “Sol” murdered by male player

Brazilian Female Professional Call of Duty Mobile player Ingrid Oliveira Bueno da Silva, known as “Sol” in the esports scene has been murdered. The heinous act was committed by a male player by the name of Guilherme Alves Costa or “Flashlight”. Local authorities have determined this to be a pre-meditated murder after discovering a book in which Flashlight wrote down the reasons he would do it.

According to a report by R7, Flashlight confessed to the killing and also stated that his “sanity is completely apt” during his arrest and that he “wanted to do this” when presented with the question of why he committed the crime.

Sol was only 19-years-old and a part of the FBI E-sports organization under which she competed in the mobile game. It was reported that she met Flashlight “on the internet” and that he had not only planned the killing ahead of time, but also recorded the events or aftermath and shared it with others.

This information came from the Gamers Elite organization which said Flashlight had sent the recording via WhatsApp.

“This Monday afternoon, [Guilherme] sent a video on the organization’s group on WhatsApp in which he supposedly had just killed a woman, filmed and shared the video. He also sent a PDF where he leaves messages of hatred against Christians and makes a nod to terrorism. After the clan leadership became aware of what happened, we organized ourselves and took necessary measures: We informed the appropriate authorities and asked all our members not to share the video of the alleged crime.

This tragedy is part of a bigger problem for Brazil where, “according to data collected by the IPEA’s Atlas of Violence 2020, in 2018 a woman was murdered in Brazil every two hours, totaling 4,519 victims.” This disturbing statistic should cause alarm and in turn we hope that action will be taken to help protect the women and people of Brazil from crimes such as the hateful one committed against Sol and her loved ones.

A manager for FBI E-sports shared the following regarding Sol.

“She was an extraordinary person, whom we will remember every day that the sun rises, every day that the sunlight touches our body, every time we look at the Sun, we will remember her.”
