The processor is much more important than the video card in CS 2

The data miner Thour has discovered that the most influential factor on the performance of CS 2 is the processor power. To conduct his research, he measured the FPS on different computer configurations. The results have been published on social media.

The specialist concluded that the CPU power is the determining factor in CS 2. Using a more modern graphics card on the same CPU only increased the frame rate by a mere 4.5%.

If someone tells you that the processor doesn’t play a significant role in CS 2, they would be completely wrong. Here’s a test I conducted on my PC. There was less than a 5% increase in FPS when switching to a much better graphics card.

The testing was done on an Intel Core i5-12400F processor. With the GeForce RTX 4060 graphics card, the game averaged 367 frames, while with the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, it was 351 frames. In both cases, CS 2 was set to medium settings and a resolution of 1920×1080.

Earlier, Thour found that CS 2 is best optimized for Windows 11. The game performs better on the latest OS, delivering a nearly 4.9% increase in FPS compared to Windows 10.
