The number of Overwatch 2 players significantly exceeds the gaming audience that was in the first part

In Overwatch 2 we see a significant increase in the number of players compared to the original Overwatch, and this audience continues to grow. This was stated by the shooter’s executive producer Jared Noyce in an interview with Gamespot, and this is good news for the development team.

Noyce notes that a particularly large influx of players occurred after Overwatch 2 appeared on the Steam platform. Many players who were previously unfamiliar with the game decided to try their hand at this shooter, and many veterans also returned to the world of Overwatch after a long break. This shows that the game is attracting new players as well as retaining its fan base.

The rapid growth of the online game Overwatch 2

Interestingly, some players have completely switched to the new Steam platform, while others prefer to use both Steam and Battle.net at the same time. This may be due to player preferences and habits, as well as the ability to play with friends who use different platforms.

Overwatch 2 was released in Early Access in October 2022 and then came to Steam in August 2023. However, despite the game’s success, it has also received criticism from some players expressing their dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the gameplay or functionality.

But overall, Overwatch 2 continues to evolve and attract new players thanks to constant updates, adding new heroes, maps and game modes. Blizzard recently introduced a new hero named Mauga, who is a tank. This gives players even more options for a variety of tactics and strategies during the game.

Overwatch 2 producer Jared News spoke about this in a conversation with Gamespot:

” The game is thriving,” he said. “Its audience has grown significantly. We’re really pleased with the healthy mix of players in Overwatch 2 right now, including both long-time OW players and newcomers.

A lot of new players have joined with the game’s release on Steam. Not only are people trying Overwatch for the first time on this platform, but also old players are returning and making Steam their primary platform. Some players have transitioned from Battle.net to Steam, while others are using both platforms simultaneously.

We’re extremely satisfied with the size of our audience, its state, and the active engagement of players. It’s evident that any game like ours wants to keep growing, and we’ll continue to pursue that goal.
