Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is not just a sequel, it is an event that has been awaited for years. Those who once missed the first part could not remain indifferent to the exciting trailers with the scale of the galactic war. And old fans, remembering the glorious days with the Ultramarines, literally held their breath in anticipation. Titus Demetrianus! Tyranids! Brutal Space Marines! Everything here screams: “The battle has begun, join in!”
Such attention from fans is both inspiration and a huge responsibility. The team from Saber Interactive understood: there is no right to make a mistake. Not the slightest. Every little thing must be verified, every moment – to awaken that very trembling in the chest from contact with your favorite universe.
And you know what? They did it. Space Marine 2 is a real gift to fans. The game has become noticeably larger in scale, more dynamic and atmospheric, while preserving the spirit of the original. The developers did not reinvent the wheel, but they did not stay put either – they strengthened the foundation and raised the bar to a new level.

A hundred years have passed since the events that shook the galaxy in the first Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Demetrian Titus, a former Space Marine captain, found himself in exile – and spent a whole century in the shadows. But the Imperium calls again, and Titus returns to the ranks. But is anyone happy about this? His new comrades in arms from the Ultramarines order greet the “veteran deserter” with distrust. Somewhere between their disdainful silence and creaking phrases according to the regulations, the main thing slips out – he is an outsider here. And although Titus does not retreat from duty, the player feels: behind his stern appearance there is a weariness. Not physical – mental.
The plot of Space Marine 2 is straightforward, like the blow of a chainsword. Hordes of enemies have once again descended on the Imperium, and only a handful of loyal fighters can stop the impending catastrophe. Titus goes into battle again, and you go with him.
But don’t rush to classify the game as a template story about heroes and villains. The further you go along the plot, the clearer it becomes – not everything is so simple. Somewhere under the ashes of destroyed worlds, something important is hidden, which the command prefers to keep silent about. And those who hunt for this treasure have their own, not very bright goals. At times it seems that Space Marine 2 is simply repeating the path of the original. But the Saber Interactive studio deviates from the course set by Relic in time and adds new twists to the narrative. No, this is still not a plot masterpiece. But watching Titus gradually build relationships with new comrades – the sullen but noble Gadriel and the sensible Kyron – is really interesting.
Even if you haven’t played the first part – it’s not scary. The game easily picks up newcomers and introduces them to the course of affairs. The characters will explain and show everything. But if you are one of those who once couldn’t tear yourself away from the first Space Marine for hours… get ready: it will be painful, beautiful and very emotional. The action takes place on three planets at once. During the campaign, you will visit swamps, wild jungles, ancient catacombs, colossal cities and battlefields where the light of the stars fades. And in almost every location there will be moments when you just want to stop and look around – everything is so carefully worked out.
From the visual side, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is almost at its best. Of course, not without rough edges: textures sometimes load before your eyes. But these are rather exceptions. Otherwise, the game looks impressive and sounds powerful. Especially in those moments when creatures are crawling at you from all corners. Even surrounded by enemies, you are in no hurry to grab a weapon – at first you want to freeze and say: “Wow…” Then, of course, it will hurt. But before that – it’s beautiful. Horribly beautiful.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Gameplay
If you played the first part, the second one will seem familiar to you — but with a number of fresh touches that make the battles more dynamic and lively. Controlling Lieutenant Titus, you will quickly understand: mistakes are not forgiven here, but you always have a chance to win back.
Titus, as befits a space marine, is not just a killing machine — he has health and armor scales. While the armor is intact, it takes all the damage. As soon as it falls, health begins to melt. If it reaches zero, the hero falls unconscious, and a timer appears: if the allies make it in time, you will return to the ranks with armor and a crumb of health. But do not think that you can do this endlessly — after the third fall, the finale awaits without the right to continue.
Health can be restored with first aid kits (approximately 40% of the total bar) or due to Titus’s “rage” – this is a special ability that needs to be accumulated. But you won’t survive for long with just “heals”. If you lose your armor, look for a weak enemy, finish him off in close combat and restore your defense. Or manage to deftly dodge a blow and respond with an accurate shot to the head – that will also work. Important: the mechanics work even in boss battles.
Your arsenal is not just a set of weapons, but a full-fledged toolkit for different situations. This is what a space marine takes to the battlefield:
- One type of melee weapon (universal or sharpened for a crowd of enemies);
- A light pistol for quick shootouts at medium range;
- The main heavy weapon – from a rifle to an assault rifle or sniper;
- Grenades, which will come in handy in close battles or for clearing narrow passages.
Ammunition is not a problem: the developers generously laid out weapons and supplies before serious skirmishes.
Sometimes Titus finds a superweapon – a real miracle of the Imperium, sweeping away enemies in packs. But there is a nuance: with such a monster in your hands, you become clumsy, and the ammo for it is rarely replenished. So use it wisely.
Everyone will find their own style – someone will love shotguns and rage, someone will rely more on dodging and shooting from afar. But one thing is clear: sitting behind the backs of allies will not work. Whether you like it or not, sooner or later you will have to rush into the thick of battle, grabbing the Hammer or Blade, and show what you are capable of against a horde of Tyranids.
And the main thing here is attentiveness. Many attacks can be repelled, others – only dodged. Misplaced a button or missed the moment – and half your life is gone. But if you act clearly, you can snatch a chance from fate and turn the tide of battle in your favor.
AI and Ally Issues in Space Marine 2
Controls in battle may seem unusual in the first minutes, but this is a deceptive feeling – you quickly get involved. After half an hour, even the most furious attacks of bosses no longer cause panic, and the “terrible” enemies often turn out to be simpler than those whom you literally just recently blew to pieces. Although you should not relax: even tiny flying vermin can turn the hero into a helpless observer of his fall.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has four difficulty levels, and if you want real drive, I recommend choosing the third or fourth. You will have to sweat. Sometimes even shout at the screen. But the emotions are real, and the satisfaction from victory is guaranteed.
It is much more offensive when you lose not through your own fault, but because of the stupidity of the allied AI. Companions sometimes do such things that you want to throw a bolter at them. For example, in missions with protecting objects, they can ignore the target and start exchanging fire with someone on the side. There are plenty of enemies – understandable. But why are we here if not to complete the task?! As a result, a lone player turns out to be the savior of the world, while the squad runs around like children in the fog.
And what happens if the main character falls and an ominous countdown to death starts on the screen? Loyal comrades, of course, rush to save you – under heavy fire, in complete silence, ignoring the main enemy. Although, it is worth noting that the one who put us down so successfully could have been put to the ground with just a couple of bursts. But no – the mission is a failure, because the AI decided that the hero is the most important.
At such moments, you just want to scream: “Don’t touch me! Kill them before it’s too late!” But alas – it does not hear you. But everything changes when you play with real people. Real coordination, assistance, planning – all this works great. Of course, unless you come across those who are eager to fight for the spectacle, and not for the result. Yes, epic. But not for long.
Space Marine 2 PvE Missions Explained: What They Add to the Campaign
Enough grumbling – it’s time to dive back into the thick of the action! The Space Marines are sent to three different planets, where they must clear the territory of everything that threatens the Imperium … and at the same time, everything that breathes. There are more than enough enemies in Space Marine 2 – and it’s not just their numbers. The enemies here are not just fodder for the sword, but full-fledged combat units: some fly, some rush along the ground, some explode under your feet, others hold on like tanks. There are annoying shooters, there are shield bearers, and each requires a special approach. Over time, you learn to deal with them beautifully and competently, turning the battle into a dance of death.
But the real magic begins when you face not a couple of Tyranids, but a whole horde. The ground is shaking, enemies are attacking from all sides, and you have only a couple of seconds: take a comfortable position, mark the barrels with fuel, pick up ammunition… And then give them a real hell of steel and fire! Victory, achieved with sweat and blood – especially after a couple of stupid mistakes and a restart – brings genuine satisfaction. It’s like in the best Soulslikes – painful, but damn exciting. And yes, the difficulty is worth turning up to the maximum. Believe me, you will not regret it.
As in the original game, there are special episodes where instead of the usual “rage” you are given a jetpack. There are not many of them, but each time – it’s pure pleasure: to fly up, fall on the enemy from above, crush him with a powerful blow. You can’t heal in such moments, but you quickly get used to it. And there is more than enough pleasure from air attacks. And if you want to take a break from the main campaign, the game offers an excellent option – PvE missions. In them, you can team up with other players or bots and simultaneously help Titus in his mission. A cool detail: if in the campaign you are only shown the actions of the main character’s squad, then here you will find out what was happening in parallel – what other fighters were doing when Titus gave orders.
Players have access to different classes – from ranged fighters to those who break into the center of the mess, and, of course, supports covering the team. In fact, PvE is not just a mode. It is an alternative view of the plot, an expansion of the game world … and excellent training before PvP, where players will come face to face with each other.
Is Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Worth Playing in 2025?
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a gift not only for fans of the first part and connoisseurs of the universe, but also for those who simply love action-packed shooters with epic battles. Even if you have not lived on a shelf with space marine figures and do not know who Titus is, it does not matter. Everything is done here so that you can enter the battle and fall in love with the atmosphere from the first minutes.
What we liked
- The atmosphere of the universe is conveyed with flying colors
- The picture is juicy, the sound gives you goosebumps
- The gameplay is addictive, you want to play without stopping
- There are many enemies, killing them is a pleasure
- The finale is just a movie, powerful, loud, impressive
- And, yes… we really need more!
What we didn’t like
- The AI of the allies is sometimes downright stupid
- Partners sometimes hinder more than help
- Some bosses seem difficult, but in reality – disappointment
- And most importantly – everything ends too quickly. We want more!
