Ravenfield

Ravenfield

Welcome to our site and this is a review of the game Ravenfield. The current state of Ravenfield has once again highlighted for players that indie developers and modders often create far more enjoyable experiences for their own satisfaction compared to what AAA companies provide for the broader gaming community (you can draw your own conclusions based on this observation). Are you not familiar with this game? That’s completely understandable, as it has received virtually no marketing or promotion at all. The mastermind behind this innovative project is Swedish programmer Johan Hassel, who is better known in the gaming world by his alias SteelRaven7. His dedication and creativity shine through in Ravenfield, showcasing how passion can lead to remarkable gaming experiences.

The indie game was released on May 18, 2017, by the developers of Raven Steel Sevent. Despite the early access, it continues to gain popularity, including among the Russian-speaking audience, despite the lack of Russian language.

There are two teams, but which one to choose is up to you. There is also a multiplayer mod from the developers of Bliplop. Gamers did not like it: the physics are different there, not like in the original, the maps are different, there are very few players. I did not meet anyone there, maybe it’s something else.

Ravenfield bazooka and equipment

As for the graphics, everything is clear here: the style is cartoonish, even an average PC will handle it. But if you have a completely “piece of stone”, then there may be freezes, which is not very pleasant, so in this case, it is recommended that the developers improve the computer. In general, the game is optimized, so you can safely put 5. As for the physics, it is very simple and funny here, it can be understood that comments are unnecessary here. Well, you will see everything else in the cuts.

There is no plot as such, but there is a map of tasks where you need to destroy the main enemy by capturing all points, gradually and step-by-step upgrading your team, as well as adding weapons, supplies and equipment.

In addition to the campaign, the modes themselves are also interesting.

  1. Special Operation is a pretty hardcore mission where you need to stealth capture points. Many simply did not find any stealth and often failed missions.
  2. Domination is a pretty difficult but interesting mode. The difficulty is that the number of rebirths is not limited, and when capturing a point, the enemy will easily crush you with the team that spawned there.
  3. Skymish – it is no different from regular battles.

Equipment

Now let’s move on to equipment. There are enough units to fulfill various roles during the battle.

Air

  • The most difficult equipment in first place was the combat helicopter. But it has an advantage – guided missiles. The difficulty of control is that you need to control the mouse.
  • In second place is the plane. It is also quite difficult to control, especially in terms of visibility and guidance. It is equipped with a machine gun and unguided missiles. Bots will 100% try to pressure you in an air battle, so get ready.

Ravenfield Leading The Biggest Helicopter

Now let’s move on to the most popular aerial technique that is used most often:

  • The first is a bomber. Its bombs kill everything that moves on the ground. There is also a machine gun in the front and a defensive turret in the back. Personally, for defense, players mainly used bombs and a turret. You can also put bots at the controls and fight back yourself, which adds interest to the game.
  • There is also a helicopter with a machine gun. It is also a transport helicopter. It has a minigun – it is simply imba, it kills absolutely everything: equipment, squads, planes, helicopters.

But despite all the air equipment, you will definitely not be left alone by things like AA (anti-aircraft defense) and javelins, whose missiles fly straight at you. I also hit with a regular bazooka – it’s pretty fun.

There are also stationary machine guns and tours – missiles that can be controlled manually. Players love to play tours and consider them imba: take it and kill a squad behind a rock.

Ground equipment

Let’s move on to ground vehicles.

  • Our first one is an ATV. Nothing special, only your back will be protected by a clumsy bot from “Star Wars”, and that’s it.
  • What about the car? Everything is the same, only now there are four of you. But it will be an excellent defense if someone sits behind the machine gun. It is also good to bend squads with the car, especially if you are in a column.
  • The favorite ground vehicles of players are the APC or IFV. But it’s up to you. You can transport an entire squad, the vehicle has a small-caliber machine gun and a large-caliber machine gun, so you won’t be finished off with a machine gun. It has good mobility, but there is no way to turn on the spot because of the wheels. However, this does not interfere with the game.

Ravenfield weapons

Your problems can be bazookas, tours and javelins. The best tactic will be an active game with capturing points and retreats. The best way is to sit still.

  • Now let’s move on to the tank. Not a very reliable vehicle. Of course, it has low mobility and a slow turret rotation. It seems to have armor, but it also seems not to have it – everything that moves will attack you, and everything that does not move will move and also attack.

But the tank has a powerful small-caliber machine gun and a huge barrel. The best tactics would be to fire from cover or capture and hold one specific point on the map.

Weapons

As for the local EFT weapon roll, there is a very large selection. Aiming is pleasant on all types, the same can be said about the recoil and ballistics of the game. It could be added to Pravda. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about multiplayer. There are also secret types of weapons that smash everything to smithereens. What is included mainly? “We have food, we have access to medicine, easy crafting, and even a bunch of quests to take on. There’s plenty of loot, but no guns in sight, and thankfully no annoying “you have to learn first” requirements – just take out enemies, search thoroughly, and loot what you find. There’s a unique movement system to navigate the environment, as well as challenges like radiation, hypothermia, hunger, thirst, and in-game currency. There’s also a health system to keep everything in check!

Ravenfield Kalashnikov

A compass for the faint-hearted? We’re taking that away! Want nine stores stocked with gear for your AK instead of the usual three? Just head to the supply depot and grab what you need! Not keen on suffering from hunger? We’ll shut that down for you. Planning a trip to Pripyat? Let’s crank up the radiation for that authentic experience! Only provide your opponents with basic spears while you get to wield an M249? Not an issue at all! Looking to add some thrilling gunfire ambience to the map? Just give me a second; we can easily throw on another mod for that. Want your enemies to engage in lively chats with plenty of different players? Just a minute! To put it plainly, in this game, the one thing you can’t seem to achieve is moving certain elements of the interface around. By the way, speaking of the interface (and as for the quests)…

Main tasks

The primary tasks are clearly outlined on the left side, labeled “assigned by command.” Until you successfully finish all of them, the escape point won’t become available. This isn’t merely a feature of a mod; it’s the standard Spec-Ops mode we mentioned earlier. If you manage to successfully accomplish every single task listed, a helicopter will eventually arrive, and you’ll need to make your way to it. Alternatively, instead of rushing for an escape, you have the option to clear out everything that moves around you. This approach resembles that of a mercenary who is genuinely working for someone and is fully obligated to justify their “payment,” instead of simply making a hasty retreat from the map without fulfilling any mission objectives. It adds a layer of immersion and responsibility to your role.

Ravenfield system requirements

To successfully launch and enjoy Ravenfield, you’ll need at least 4 GB of RAM and a minimum of 1 GB of free space on your hard drive. The game’s requirements specify a graphics card similar to the HD Graphics 3000, but for a significantly improved playing experience, the developers highly recommend opting for a GeForce GTX 750. When it comes to the processor, a Pentium 4 with a clock speed of 2.4 GHz is the absolute minimum you should consider. However, if your goal is to elevate your graphic settings and have a smoother, more enjoyable gaming experience, you should definitely choose a Pentium 4 630 or a higher model to ensure optimal performance while playing. Making these considerations can drastically enhance your gameplay experience.
