It has been a little over a month since Byron ‘Reckful’ Bernstein passed away and, although he previously was immortalized within World of Warcraft, Blizzard have confirmed that a new NPC has been added to the game as a memory of the player.
Byron Burnside is the name of a non-player character or NPC, situated in the Tiragarde Sound region of World of Warcraft – added in early Battle for Azeroth. The NPC is a tribute to Byron ‘Reckful’ Bernstein, a WoW player that rose the player-vs-player (PVP) ranks and became a true legend among the Twitch community around the world. As of today, it has been confirmed that a new memorial has been added into the game – this time a Rogue NPC trainer situated in the Cathedral of Light within Stormwind City.
The tribute NPC will be part of Shadowlands, the upcoming expansion to Blizzard’s World of Warcraft franchise and it will be situated within the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind City. For now, it seems as though the NPC also has a small amount of flavour text when interacted with, which includes the line, “I don’t train Assassination Rogues”, which is a throwback to Reckful refusing to learn the Mutilate skill as the Rank 1 Rogue, as well as an option to simply say that it was good to see him again – as can be seen in the image below.
It is unknown as to whether more will be added to these interactions at a later stage, but for now, this NPC depicts Reckful’s actual in game character as it was, just without the famed Warglaives of Azzinoth. Although Reckful was banned from the game, the immortalization of his character is a perfect memorial, especially amongst the WoW community to which he was so fondly known and loved.
