David Katz a 24-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland, entered the GLHF Game Bar on Sunday, and opened fire with a semiautomatic handgun killing three and wounding eight others at a video game tournament. The Madden Championship Event stop in Jacksonville, FL saw hundreds of gamers taking place in a tournament featuring the Madden Football video game from Electronic Arts.
Katz would take his own life before being confronted by law enforcement.
Numerous videos have surface where gunshots and people being hit can be heard. In one video, you can hear the gunman fire 12 rounds while people scramble for cover as gunshots rip throughout the GLHF GameBar.
According to video reports, the mass shooting took place at 1:34 p.m. at the Jacksonville Landing, a popular tourist riverfront collection of restaurants and shops.
Although there is no motive stated at this time, sources on Twitter have said that Katz was upset at losing during the tournament and became irate.
One of the wounded victims was compLexity Gaming’s Drini Gjoka who immediately took to twitter after the shooting. “The tourney just got shot up. Im leavinng, and never coming back,” he tweeted. Minutes later, he again tweeted that a bullet struck him in the thumb.
