It was quite the year in esports as the industry made a return to online competition after so many battles on LAN in recent years. The COVID-19 global pandemic forced the cancel or postponement of nearly every esports event in 2020 including that of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
In this article we’re going to take a look back at MLBB’s big winners of 2020 across the globe so you can decide for yourself who deserves the title of most dominant MLBB team of 2020.
Kicking things off in the Philippines, it was a strong start to the year for Sunsparks as they crushed their competition on their way to the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League season 5 title. After making the organization swap to Aura PH, things got a little less stable however. It was BREN who took over the latter half of the year, winning MPL-PH season 6 in dominant fashion before taking The Nationals season 2 trophy to make them back-to-back winners of the league. BREN would also reach the grand finals of the ONE Esports MPL Invitational where they fell to Alter Ego in a sweep.
Despite picking up an international title, Alter Ego hadn’t been quite as successful at home as the Indonesian side finished runner-up to RRQ in the MPL-ID season 6 grand finals after an intense series which saw a 40-minute long game. RRQ’s success gave them a total of three championships this year with back-to-back MPL-ID trophies alongside the ONE Esports MPL Invitational 4 Nations Cup.
It was Todak to claim the MPL-MY/SG title in Season 6, getting revenge on EVOS SG who took the glory in Season 5 earlier in the year. In MPL-Myanmar it was Burmese Ghouls who continued to dominate the region and secure a fourth title but didn’t fare quite as well internationally.
The biggest title of the year has been postponed with the M2 World Championships pushed back to 2021.
