G2 Esports will field their primary support Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle in the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational, head coach Fabian “GrabbZ” Lohmann confirmed on Twitter. Until recently, it was uncertain whether Mikyx’s recurring wrist pains would keep him on the bench, but Lohmann assured that “the doctors gave him a greenlight to participate in official matches”.

Mikyx himself blogged about his health issues last month, saying that healing and recovery will take priority over playing at MSI. The player has been visiting specialists for treatment with the support of G2 management and it seems that at least for now, he will be on the Rift for the “samurai”.

G2’s journey in MSI will begin tomorrow, May 10, with one of the toughest starts of all six teams. The LEC champions will play both SK Telecom T1 and Invictus Gaming, arguably the two best teams in the tournament, on their opening day and risk an early 0-2 start to the group stage. Having shown a dominant performance in the LEC finals and considering their strong season-long form, however, G2 are still among the favorites to make at least the MSI semifinals, and potentially even the grand final stage.
