Team WE coach and veteran AD Carry Gao “WeiXiao” Xue-Cheng spoke on his personal stream about his team’s form ahead of the LPL playoffs. WE are about to face eight-place seed JD Gaming who barely scraped by to make the final eight, but according to WeiXiao, there’s no time to relax.

“We’ve never underestimated any of our opponents. We are a weak team and we treat every match seriously. We want to fight hard [in the playoffs] and reach, well, top 4 at the very least. Reaching top 4 means we will get to play at Rift Rivals, right? “

Team WE had a difficult start to the season but rallied in the late weeks empowered by the return of jungler Jiang “beishang” Zhi-Peng. WE won eight of their last ten games in the regular season and rose up to No. 5 in the rankings, just below Royal Never Give Up.

But winning regular season games is one thing. Winning best-of-5’s under high pressure is another and there are some tough matches ahead of WE potentially — especially RNG, who beat WeiXiao’s team 2-0 in the regular season with relative ease.

“There are only two spots left for the Rift Rivalry because both iG and FPX have secured top 4 already. We need to beat RNG and JDG to reach top 4 but RNG is going to be a tough opponent, they are too experienced. Our players haven’t played a single best-of-5 series yet. But I think it’s still okay, this could be our chance to make some breakthroughs and evolve.”

Team WE will play JD Gaming in Round 1 of the LPL Playoffs this Thursday, Apr. 4, at 11:00 CEST | 02:00 PST.
