More news from the Riot Games 10-year anniversary stream. League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics will both arrive on mobile platforms in 2020. This confirms earlier reports and footage of LoL mobile’s development.
The LoL mobile client is called League of Legends: Wild Rift. It’s not an exact copy of League of Legends for PC and will have shorter games, reportedly around 15-20 minutes, which should make mobile gamers — and their device batteries — happy. Wild Rift should launch in alpha in a few months, with full release expected end of 2020.
TFT Mobile, on the other hand, is arriving much sooner in early 2020. The expansion into the mobile market is a natural one for the LoL autobattler and arrives to directly compete with Valve’s Underlords, which is about to lose its biggest unique selling point. Also like Underlords, TFT Mobile will support cross-platform play between PC and mobile devices.
With so many new announcements (also including the card game Legends of Runeterra), Riot are making a powerful moves against their main competitors in Blizzard and Valve. The recent Hearthstone scandal made Blizzard public enemy #1 in the gaming space, while Valve is headed for a two-for-two record in terms of dead-on-arrival games.
