In an interview with ELLE Men, Invictus Gaming’s AD Carry Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo talked about the rigorous training schedule of the team and recollects his iconic Xayah Flash in game 5 against KT Roster at Worlds 2018.

* * *

In game 5 against KT at Worlds, what was the idea behind that Flash?

Since their jungler was low on health, I knew I could kill him with one auto-attack. Also, I still had my other key spells available which should’ve kept me safe. So I just went for it.

Didn’t it occur to you that you might fail?

I didn’t think too much at that time. Maybe it was about my playstyle. Some would want to play safe, but I prefer to take risks and seize the chance.

How would you rate the current IG?

We can beat any team and win the championship. But we could also lose to any team when we are in a bad shape. In general, we are good at seizing opportunities which is probably why we are good at team fights.

Why do IG have the confidence to take fights even when you are outnumbered?

We do it because we are confident about our individual skills. We just have a feeling that we could take the fight — it’s in us like a muscle reaction. We basically don’t talk during team fights and play the game guide by our own understanding of it. I don’t know how to explain it, but it really is based on our game sense. Maybe it also has something to do with the fact that we have played with each other for a long time. It depends on the players’ as well as the team’s understanding of team fights.

What’s the team’s daily routine?

We usually wake up at noon, and sit in front of the computers before 13:00. Then we’d play scrims from 14:00 to 17-18:00. After that is our dinner time. Up next are more scrims until 21-22:00. After 22:00, we play some solo queue to 02-03:00. In other words, we practice for 12 hours a day.

There are rumors saying that in some clubs, a player’s salary is directly related to his rank on the KR server. Do you have this rule in IG?

There is no such rule in IG. Personally, I don’t think it’s helpful either. It’s still up to the player himself.

What do you usually do on holidays?

We don’t have much vacation time. There is a day off between two tournaments but there is not much you can do within one day, so I use most of the time to sleep.

What would you do if you had a three-month vacation now?

Go home. Maybe I’ll go out and travel. In China, when we finish a tournament, we only have time to go out for dinner and then we need to fly back to our training base the next day. When we were at Worlds, we also came back right after the tournament. So, I’d like to take a trip but I haven’t figured out where to go.
