Tony “Zikz” Gray is the new head coach of 100 Thieves, the organization announced Monday. Zikz replaces the recently departed Neil “Pr0lly” Hammad, who parted ways with 100T after two years as head coach.
Zikz’s signing is part of the roster rebuilding under the direction of the new 100T LoL General Manager, former caster and analyst Chris “PapaSmithy” Smith. Zikz comes from Team SoloMid, where he was the head coach for two Splits and almost got TSM to the Worlds 2019 stage.
As an org, 100 Thieves have already proven they can be among the well-performing one in the LCS. In 2018, they made the Spring Playoffs finals and eventually booked their ticket to Worlds, but ended up finishing third in groups behind Invictus Gaming and Fnatic, the two teams that made the grand finals this year. In 2019, despite a two-times world champion and veteran bot laner in Bae “Bang” Jun-sik, 100 Thieves failed to perform and missed the playoffs both splits, finishing 10th in Spring and 8th in Summer. Now, with new GM and head coach at the helm, 100 Thieves will look to remedy the 2019 season and go strong in 2020.
The majority of 100 Thieves’ players have contracts up until 2020, with the exception of mid laner Yoo “Ryu” Sang-wook and support Zaqueri “aphromoo” Black, so they’ll likely won’t undergo major roster changes in the upcoming off season.
