It’s always a great thing to see big organizations whether or not it’s in the world of gaming or outside of it – team up to support a great cause. For Riot Games, they’ve decided to not only support one great cause, but they’re supporting 20 non-profit organizations.
Before we dive into the details of how you can get this skin, let’s learn a bit of the backstory first and it all starts with a boy named Bryan.
Bryan is (obviously) a huge League of Legends fan. Currently recovering from osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, Bryan decided that he wanted to create his own League of Legends skin. With the help of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Riot Games and Bryan teamed up to create Dark Star Cho’Gath. You can take a peek at Bryan’s journey at Riot’s HQ below!
We’re honored to be bringing Bryan’s vision into League and supporting nonprofit organizations along the way. We will donate 100% of the proceeds from this skin (as well as the icon, emote, and bundles) to our partner, GlobalGiving, who will then distribute grant funding on a proportional basis from sales in each participating region to select nonprofits around the world, guaranteeing a minimum donation of at least $10,000 (USD) to each nonprofit. The sale will run from July 13 through August 10, 2018.
There are 20 different non-profits that will be receiving 100% of the proceeds. The list includes The Make-A-Wish Foundation, Gaming-Aid, Save The Children, The Pieta House as well as the Headspace National Youth Mental Health Foundation.
There are three ways you can get your hands on the new skin. You can purchase the Galactic Heart Bundle for 2500 RP which includes Dark Star Cho’Gatch, Dark Star Cho’Gath icon, Galactic Heart icon, and the Dark Star Cho’Gath border. There’s also the Dark Star Cho’Gath Bundle which sells for 1500 RP which includes the new skin and the Dark Star icon. The skin alone retails for 1350 RP.
Personally, seeing something like this provides not only gamers, but human beings with a feel-good story. Chances are that you know someone effected by cancer and you understand the hardships that families and friends have to go through because of the horrible disease. Bryan’s story is one that many of us can relate to. If it’s not League of Legends, a simpler wish can oftentimes bring the biggest smiles to those in need. This is truly a cause worth supporting.
Dark Star Cho’Gath will be available until August 10.
