The new LPL season is less than two weeks from now. The official schedule was revealed today, showing January 13 as the first day of the Spring Split, which opens with the most exciting face-off possible.

In the very first match, reigning LPL and world champions FunPlus Phoenix will meet the 2018 world champions Invictus Gaming. The potential of the game is absolutely unmatched by any other week 1 has to offer being a clash between LPL’s two very best teams.

FunPlus Phoenix made no changes to their Worlds winning line-up and only upgraded the top lane, signing Kim “Khan” Dong-ha, formerly of SKT. Invictus Gaming, on the other hand, lost their long-standing bot laner Yu “JackeyLove” Wen-Bo to free agency and signed former Vici Gaming duo of Ding “Puff” Wang and Su “Southwind” Zhi-Lin.

Sources, however, indicate that JackeyLove might be re-signing with Invictus Gaming before the off-season transfer window closes. If the signing goes through, this will make the encounter with FPX all the more exciting. The last meaningful encounter (i.e. not the LPL All-Star best-of-1) was the Worlds 2019 semifinals, which FPX won 3-1 to deny iG their second consecutive grand final. In 2019, both head-to-heads between the teams went to full three games, so fans should be absolutely thrilled that this is how the new LPL season opens.

Below is the full schedule of week 1.

The 2020 LPL Spring Split will last for 10 weeks, ending April 5. The top 8 teams from the regular season will then proceed to the playoffs.

The quickly approaching starting date of Jan. 13 is also putting a lot of pressure on several teams to finalize their rosters. One such team is the newly-welcomed eStar Gaming, which are yet to announce a single player signing.
