ESL hasn’t been associated with Fortnite esports — until now. In its first tweet on @ESL_Fortnite, the leading esports organizer announced a massive Fornite tournament to take place during IEM Katowice.

Dubbed ESL Katowice Royale, the tournament will boast a total prize pool of $600,000. $100,000 will be awarded to the Polish event (Feb. 23-24), while the other half a million are allotted to the International Edition (Mar. 1-3). The prize pool rivals that of Epic Games’ own events and is the highest paying Fortnite tournament organized by a third-party.

100 players will participate in each arm of the competition, with the following duos confirmed for the international event:

  • 72hrs – Chap
  • 7ssk7 – Jamside
  • Bizzle – Dmo
  • Boyerxd – Crippa
  • Dementos – Fwexy
  • Hoopek – Sk1x

Katowice has always been a special place for IEM events and this year won’t be an exception, judging by these announcements. Apart from the $600,000 Fortnite event, IEM Katowice will also host the CS:GO Major to crown the best team in Counter-Strike.

“Fortnite is a global game, and there are amazing, passionate players all around the globe,” said Rob Hodson of Epic Games. “Partnering with ESL in Katowice gives us the chance to showcase some of these incredible international competitors.”
