It’s finally happened — the Forza Horizon series is moving to Japan. The publisher Xbox Game Studios, along with the guys from Playground Games, officially confirmed the development of the sixth part, and, admittedly, the gameplay teaser looks simply stunning. Write down the date in your calendars — on May 19, 2026, the project will land on PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles, but PlayStation 5 owners will have to wait until the end of the same year, which, frankly, is quite expected for such releases.

The scale of the map and the Japanese setting of Forza Horizon 6

The developers seem to have decided to finally impress the fans — the map in the new part will be the largest in the entire existence of the franchise. The main star will be virtual Tokyo— a giant metropolis, which, by the way, is 5 times larger than any city from the fifth Horizon. At the start, we are promised more than 550 real—life cars, including the latest Toyota GR GT Prototype, which looks charming.

This time, the focus is on socializing and customization:

  • Your garages can now be fully customized — literally every corner.
  • Construction mechanics will appear in the open world — it generally sounds like a challenge to the usual races.
  • EventLab mode will get tools for collaborative creativity — cool, really.
  • The online gatherings of car clubs are imbued with the spirit of real Japanese culture — in fact, this is exactly what everyone has been waiting for.

An overview of the game world and locations in the new part

Japan has finally officially become the home of the Horizon Festival, and to be honest, the Land of the Rising Sun looks like the perfect stage for a crazy open world. The developers, apparently, decided not to be petty and rolled out a seamless map where the neon jungles of Tokyo are adjacent to quiet rural trails and legendary mountain passes — a paradise for drifting, in short.

Features of the open world and the size of the Tokyo map

The world of the sixth part is, in fact, a single canvas of the Japanese landscape, where a huge metropolis smoothly flows into quiet villages and serpentines at the foot of the great Fuji. This structure gives us the freedom that we love about the series: you can fly along a high—speed highway, and a minute later you’re dusting down a country lane, and — and this is important – you won’t see any loading screens.

Playground Games jumped over their heads. Tokyo, in their performance, has become the most elaborate and “multi-layered” city in the history of the franchise, and its size, by the way, simply destroys the scale of urbanism from previous parts. Around the center of gravity, the map opens up in all its glory — there are coastal trails and passes that really make you feel the scale of an adventure in the open world.

Tokyo as the central hub and metropolis in the game

Tokyo will become the very core around which the urban gameplay revolves: endless interchanges, dense neighborhoods and wide avenues turn into a giant arena for night races. The authors were inspired by real places like the C1 Loop — fans of Japanese car culture, apparently, will be completely delighted with the recognizable routes.

The coolest thing here is betting on verticality:

  • Overpasses and multi—level roads add depth to navigation – a real maze for the pros.
  • Interchanges create new scenarios for drifting right in the traffic flow — it looks powerful, really.
  • Special areas for “cars” have been provided inside the city – greetings to the legendary Daikoku parking lot.
  •  Tokyo is now not just a set of scenery, but a huge social hub where players hang out.

Examples of Tokyo’s urban areas on the map

Zone Type Gameplay Impact
Central Highways High speeds, highway races driven by hype
Dense Street Grid Technical drifting, tight corners, traffic management
Multi-level Overpasses Vertical route design, cinematic night races
Daikoku-style Car Meets Social activities, JDM park showcases

Japanese atmosphere and architectural zones on the map

Forza Horizon 6 world and locations

The setting is based on a wild contrast: right around the corner from the sparkling skyscrapers, you can stumble upon ancient temples or small tuning workshops. This creates the very right Japanese vibe, when modernity is literally squeezed into tradition. Outside the capital, there are picturesque sakura alleys and views of Fuji waiting for us — a trip around the country, in fact, feels full-fledged, not caricatured.

The layout of the locations literally screams about the love of cars: from industrial zones and cramped parking lots to the mountain roads “touge”, which are so loved by drifters. In addition, the dynamic weather and the changing seasons make the map alive. Apparently, the landscape here is not just a backdrop, but a full—fledged participant in the race, who constantly changes the rules of the game under your wheels. It is logical that such a depth of study will bring the project to the absolute leaders of the genre.

The cost of pre-order and edition of Forza Horizon 6

Pre-orders are already open, and there are three options to choose from: the regular Standard for $69.99, the extended Deluxe for $99.99 and the top Premium for $119.99. And here’s the most interesting thing — those who pick up the Premium Edition will break into the game four days earlier, on May 15th. Subscribers of the Game Pass (Ultimate and PC versions), of course, have nothing to worry about — the project, in fact, will drop into the library on the day of the world launch on May 19, 2026, without unnecessary expenses. Apparently, Microsoft is betting heavily on this launch, and, in truth, everything looks as promising as possible.
