More big names have joined the esports wagon and this time it’s in support of 100 Thieves. Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag has been joined by Drake and Scoot Braun as co-owners of the major esports organization.

The superstar musician and entrepreneur were part of the Series A funding round that ended on October 23 and seemingly resulted in the two celebrities becoming co-owners of 100 Thieves. While most people recognize the name Drake, Braun is massively successful in his field and represents musical artists such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.

“It’s been exciting to watch esports become a cultural phenomenon in 2018. I’ve spent my ten-year career in esports growing the ecosystem and am proud to have Drake and Scooter join as my partners to help take 100 Thieves to new heights. Our top priority is to win world championships, but our ambitions go far beyond competitive gaming,” Haag said in the announcement.

Drake has made a little noise in the gaming space in the past having played with Tyler “Ninja” Blevins live on Twitch which saw upwards of 600,000 live viewers and helped to create a larger mainstream audience for the popular title Fortnite.

Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans had provided a multi-million dollar investment in 2017 which saw 100 Thieves return on a larger stage, the League of Legends LCS after a hiatus for the organization as a whole from esports. The brand continued to do apparel during this time.

Forbe’s article  regarding this news revealed that 100 Thieves “now has $25 million in total funding, and the new influx of capital will go toward building out its content team, acquiring new talent and continuing to expand its apparel line.”

The idea of an apparel line that has already sold out in under 20 minutes on every drop thus far now being backed by Drake is heartbreaking for those who have been unable to land a piece of gear.

Hope remains though as the influx of cash may lead to a larger budget that includes merchandise.
