31-year-old Twitch streamer and former esports professional Byron “Reckful” Bernstein has passed away according to reports from people close to Bernstein.
The first post came from Reckful’s ex-girlfriend “BlueGoesMew” who posted to Twitter “someone I love killed themselves. I wish I could have said something to prevent it…” before following it up by saying “Yes, it’s him. He’s gone.” Given their previously public relationship and Bernsteins openness regarding his struggles with mental health, many quickly put the pieces together.
As this began to circulate around the internet, NymN, another streamer all but confirmed it by stating that Blue’s account wasn’t hacked and Reckful’s roommate had confirmed his passing.
These posts came just hours after Reckful had been posting to Twitter himself, proposing to an ex-girlfriend and claiming he knew “she’s the one.” He urged his following not to pressure her into saying yes.
A former professional World of Warcraft player, Reckful made a name for himself as one of the best Player vs. Player competitors in the game. Finishing in the top rank for six back-to-back seasons, he cemented himself in WoW history even further as the first player to hit a rating of 3000.
After a time in Hearthstone, he moved into focusing more on streaming where he remained popular to this day. Reckful’s Twitch channel has nearly 1 million followers and brought in thousands of viewers for streams across a variety categories.
