Evil Geniuses claimed top spot in the NA qualifiers for the ESL One Los Angeles Major when they beat Chaos Esports Club 2-1 in the playoffs. But it turned out to be a happy ending for Chaos as well, as they beat Business Associates 2-0 in the lower bracket final of the playoffs to claim the second NA spot.

This will be EG’s third Major of the season. They made the first two as well and their performance has been improving. After finishing fourth in the MDL Chengdu Major, Evil Geniuses came in touching distance of the DreamLeague Season 13 Leipzig Major trophy, losing 3-2 to Team Secret in the grand finals. They will be hoping to take it a step further in Los Angeles and take first position. For Chaos, it is their second Major of the season. Their first one was the Leipzig Major in which they crashed and burned, finishing 13th-16th and earning just 100 DPC points. They have a lot of room for improvement and to show what they can really do.

The last time a premier tournament took place in NA was The International 2018 in Vancouver. Yes, that’s how long it has been. There weren’t any Majors played in NA in the 2018-2019 season, so the North American crowd will be really pleased to see a Major in their backyard. And more than that, EG and Chaos EC will have the home crowd to cheer and back them and will hopefully be able get a Major trophy to North America to show the region isn’t as bad as lot of people tout it to be.
