ESL One Thailand 2020: Asia continued today with some huge series as BOOM Esports fought Motivate.Trus Gaming followed by Fnatic going up against TNC Predator.
Having won their opening series against Fnatic just under a week ago, MG.Trust were quickly seen as possible “dark horses” of the ESL One Thailand event – with the possibility of more upsets. Even after losing to TNC a couple of days later, taking a game off the Major champions gave them hope moving forward. However, going up against BOOM today proved too much for the ESL Thailand Championship squad as they seemed to crumble under the pressure – although some near perfect plays from BOOM’s roster helped this along too.
Following this, it was down to a massive series between two of the best teams from the Southeast Asia region; Fnatic and TNC Predator. Right off the bat in the first game of the series, TNC were absolutely dominant, pummeling Fnatic into the ground and leaving them in their dust. Over the 23-minute game, Fnatic only secured a total of two kills as TNC rushed into the lead, but that did not remain for long, as Fnatic found their footing with an unkillable Spectre from Marc Polo ‘Raven’ Luis Fausto and tied the series at 1-1.
As we expected from these two juggernauts, game three was an intense brawl which lasted over an hour as neither team were willing to give up the victory. Unfortunately for TNC, the game was always steadily going against them and even when things looked promising, Fnatic were ready to shut the door. A Slark from Raven was at the forefront this time around as he claimed himself a RAMPAGE in the dying moments and helped Fnatic to secure a 2-1 reverse sweep victory over TNC.
The wins from BOOM and Fnatic push them into first and second place in Group A respectively, while TNC and MG.Trust fall into third and fourth place, respectively. Tomorrow we will see action from both groups as Adroit and Team Trust attempt to kickstart their winless tournament beginnings, while T1 will attempt to stop the untouchable Geek Fam.
