After Valve finally revealed the plan for the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit along with the tournament organizers operating each of the six regional leagues, PGL, who will be hosting the Southeast Asia competition set to start on January 18, announced the full details for their Season 1 league.
Each of the six regional leagues will feature an Upper and a Lower Division, each with eight teams. As per Valve rule, four teams are directly invited by Valve themselves to the Upper Division, the rest of 12 slots going to be claimed via open and closed qualifiers.
For Southeast Asia, PGL announced the four directly invited teams to the Upper Divison to be as follows:
- TNC Predator
- Boom Esports
The other four teams joining the Upper Division will be determined via closed qualifiers where 8 squads got invited. The closed qualifiers will be held in two stages.
Stage 1 – 8 teams will play in a double-elimination bracket, best-of-three series top 4 are decided. These 4 teams will qualify for the Upper Division and the bottom 4 teams will play in the next qualifying stage.
Stage 2 – The teams will play in two Round Robin groups, two-game series, 6 teams in each group. The 5th and the 6th place are eliminated. The remaining teams will qualify for the Lower Division.
Invited teams to Stage 1 closed qualifiers:

- Team SMG
- Smart Omega
- Vice Esports
- Galaxy Racer
- Cignal Ultra
- Neon Esports
The Upper and Lower Division will be played in a Round Robin bracket format, best of three series. Upper Division bottom two teams will be relegated to the Lower Division, while the top two teams of the Lower Division will be promoted. The bottom two teams of the Lower Division will be eliminated from the league and will be replaced in the next season by open qualifiers winners.
