Recently released from Gambit Esports, Anatoly “Boo!k” Ivanov joins Virtus.pro, where he will team up with Arsenij “ArsZeeqq” Usov to help the team on the strategic side.
According to a Twitter post made by Roman Dvoryankin, Virtus.pro’s General Manager, Boo!k is already with the team in Shanghai. He will help VP only with analyzing all the interactions on the map, movement, warding, smokes, etc and will not interfere with the way the team will be drafting. ArsZeeqq will have full control along with the five players on the drafting strategies used during The International 2019 and will most likely be the only coach present next to the players during the drafting phase.
This is not the first time when a team chooses to work with two coaches during TI. Last year, VG.J Storm brought along Ilya “Illidan” Pivcaev on the last minute to join Aaron “Clairvoyance” Kim for coaching duties. They had both of their coaches staying with the team during drafting for the group stage matches and got penalized for their action even though the team said that they asked the admin before letting Illidan enter the room. However, Valve stated at that time that the teams were informed during the player’s meeting prior to the event that only one coach is allowed to be present with them during the drafting stage. VG.J Storm were given a level 2 draft penalty and were not allowed to bring any coach for their first series in the main event.
Most likely, Virtus.pro will not make the same mistake at TI9 and will have Boo!k only for the post match analysis. Boo!k was officially announced to have departed from Gambit Esports yesterday when the organization has also dropped Andrey “Afoninje” Afonin from their roster. Interestingly enough, Virtus.pro’s General Manager has also posted a picture of his wallet on Twitter, showing that he carries a photo of Afoninje with him.
What’s the meaning of his latest twitter share remains to be seen, perhaps in the post TI9 shuffle.
