According to a post made by Vici Gaming on their Weibo account, the dates for The International 2019 have been confirmed and we just have a few months before the prestigious event begins.
In the post above it states that the Group Stages of the ninth iteration of the event will begin on August 16th and run through to August 18th before the Main Event will come at us from August 20th to 25th 2019. We should add that none of this has been officially confirmed by Valve and VG also added that this information is “from the grapevine” – however, a quick Google search returns the same dates stated in the post.
So far there are four teams confirmed for The International 2019 – having accumulated enough Dota 2 Pro Circuit points throughout the season and claimed their spot among the elite heading to Shanghai, China in August. There will still be another eight teams that will come through the DPC points system and with another two Majors left for the season (MDL Disneyland Paris and EPICENTER Major 2019), many teams will surely make their way into the tournament. However, for those teams that fail to acquire the points, there are regional qualifiers for ONE team from each of the six regions. But the dates for these regional qualifiers are yet to be announced – although they would possibly take place in July of 2019.
A list of the DPC points table can be seen below, with much of it subject to change quite soon with a Minor on the go and a Major soon after.
The International 2019 will be played at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China on home soil for many Chinese Dota 2 teams such as currently qualified Vici Gaming and last year’s runner-up, PSG.LGD – inversely, last year’s champions, OG are still sitting on 0 points but we know that with Anathan ‘Ana’ Pham back, anything is possible.
