Team Unique is back to the Dota 2 professional scene and will be playing in the first season of Dota Pro Circuit 2021 through the CIS Upper Division.
Unique closed their Dota 2 division in early November 2020 citing lack of stability in the professional scene and no clear plan coming from Valve for the 2021 competitive year. However, with the Dota Pro Circuit re-installed, the organization picked up NoPangolier, who are set to fight for a spot at the first Major of the year through the CIS Regional League Upper Division.
NoPangolier was formed at the end of December 2020 in preparation for the new Dota Pro Circuit and was one of the eight teams to receive an invite into the CIS closed qualifiers. They made the best of their one shot at starting the 2021 DPC from the Upper Division and defeated the likes of HellRaisers and Winstrike to give themselves a chance at playing for a ticket to the Season 1 Major. Yaroslav “Pikachu” Vasilenko, Danil “Bignum” Shekhovtsov, and Nikita “Palantimos” Grinkevich have previously played for Unique through 2019 and 2020, which makes the signing a returning home story for them. Alongside Andrii “Ghostik” Kadyk and Semion “CemaTheSlayer” Krivulya, they will be looking to stir the pot in the region and upset the favorites for a spot at the Major.
CIS received three slots to the first Major of the year. At the end of the Upper Division matches one team will qualify straight to the Major playoffs, the second place team will advance to the tournament’s group stage, while the third place team will go to Wild Card leg of the competition where they will be given a last chance at making it to the Major. Team Unique will make their DPC debut on the 22nd of January at 15:00 CET, when they will open the Upper Division battle with their series against NAVI.
