You would think that after a year, the rivalry between OG and Evil Geniuses might have simmered down. But it was actually re-ignited just before the start of TI9 with Red Bull releasing OG’s documentary ‘Against All Odds’, in which N0tail opened up a bit about Fly and s4’s departure. Well, OG’s raw emotions were at play today when they defeated EG 2-0 on day 2 of the TI9 group stages.
Game 1 was an absolute stomp for OG, with EG letting through what is turning out to be the most banned hero of the tournament – the Alchemist. Ana’s Alchemist just snowballed out of control and there was nothing EG could do to stop OG. They did show some signs of life with a couple of good Ravages and Sanity’s Ecllipses, but it was too little too late.
Game 2 was a lot closer initially, but an overconfident EG got caught out in a Reverse Polarity – Omnislash combo which turned the tides. OG took the Aegis after that fight and used it perfectly to play around Sven’s God’s Strength. The game slipped out of EG’s hands before they knew it. In both games, Ana and Ceb were the two players that stood out for OG. The Green Dream now have a score of 5-1 where as Evil Geniuses have an exact opposite score of 1-5. The North American outfit is yet to take on the likes of Vici Gaming and Virtus Pro in group B, which makes qualifying for the upper bracket a difficult task for them now.
Day 2 also started on a very positive note for the Chinese favorites Vici Gaming, who beat Virtus Pro 2-0. Although both games went over 40 minutes, VP never really looked the better team in any of them. Vici Gaming lead the group with a 6-0 record and seem to be the team to beat in group B.
In the other two games at the start of day 2, Na’Vi and Infamous shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw with NiP and Fnatic having to settle for a draw as well. The most interesting series of the day is perhaps PSG.LGD versus Team Liquid; and we also get to see if anyone can take a game off the two flawless teams – Team Secret and Vici Gaming. Lot of exciting Dota 2 on the way!
