The grand final of the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor was set to be between two giants of the European region – Alliance and Ninjas in Pyjamas, a rematch of the upper bracket finals.
While both teams had already claimed the final two positions available at EPICENTER, the battle for the Minor title was still an extremely heated affair. After they had both dominated their respective groups early in the event, they met for the first time in the Upper Bracket finals which ended in Alliance outshining NiP over three games – but after NiP’s lower bracket dominance, they had a shot at revenge and for a second Minor title for the Dota 2 Pro Circuit Season.
Alliance looked absolutely dominant in the opening game, running through their opponent with a Troll Warlord and Queen of Pain and never really allowing them to get onto the board. It took nearly 45 minutes, but NiP would throw in the towel and they placed their focus into game two.
This was a complete turnaround and we witnessed Adrian ‘Fata’ Trinks bring out the Mirana and go 17-1-13 through the half hour destruction. Going into the next game, Alliance seemed to be ready to take the lead again as they opened up brilliantly but NiP had different plans and they put them into effect. By little over 30 minutes, it was over – giving NiP a 2-1 lead and series point.
Alliance weren’t about to give up and game four was an hour-long brawl between the two European giants. The lead swung back-and-forth, with NiP looking in control for a long period and it seemed as though the Minor would be done. Alliance utilised buybacks and all-round great play to hold off and tie up the series to take us to a final and decisive game five.
The final game of the Minor would give us the pleasure of witnessing a Marcus ‘Ace’ Hoelgaard Meepo and it worked wonders for NiP. By barely 25 minutes the team had destroyed a top lane of barracks in their opponent’s base and Alliance fell apart following this, conceding the intense series.
While Alliance still head to the EPICENTER Major, Ninjas in Pyjamas claim their second Minor victory of the season – hoisting the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor trophy high. In just a week we will head to the final Major of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit season where these two teams join the fourteen others as they fight for the EPICENTER title.
