WePlay! Pushka League would see its first elimination today as HellRaisers and Virtus.pro would be fighting for their tournament lives in a best-of-three series.
Yesterday we saw two of the three CIS squads which played falling into the lower bracket: Virtus.pro and HellRaisers, as they both fell to 0-2 losses to Team Liquid and Ninjas in Pyjamas respectively. After having an amazing run through the group stages of the event, HR were unable to find their footing in the playoff’s upper bracket and elimination would be facing them in the lower bracket. For VP, their ESL One Los Angeles Online victory seemed a thing off the past when they dropped to a strong Liquid squad and would have to get some revenge over HR if they wanted to move forward.
Going into the series, things were extremely close between the two teams as neither really took a massive lead in game one. Both teams traded back and forth for some time and it was initially HR who claimed a 10k lead near the half hour mark but as things progressed, they begun to fall off and VP would find a massive double team wipe near the 50-minute mark which gave them game one. With their backs against the wall, HR would need a victory to remain in the tournament but that was not to be the case.
Although things still went up and down, HR were never really able to claim a decent advantage, as VP managed to hold on and take down HR, getting some revenge for the beating they received in the group stages.
With that, HellRaisers would be the first team eliminated from the WePlay! Pushka League, while Virtus.pro would survive to fight another day in the lower bracket – with their opponent being decided later today between NiP and VP.Prodigy. Next up today would see an upper bracket series between Team Secret and Natus Vincere.
