A tournament schedule overlap is bound to happen next week when WESG will host in China their third edition at the same time with the Dota Pro Circuit StarLadder ImbaTV (SLI) Minor, which will be held in Kiev, Ukraine.

The schedule conflict it’s extremely unfortunate for most of the players as WESG offers a very attractive amount of money, while the Minor has a qualifier slot for the Major to offer. Most of the players who qualified for both events chose to drop from WESG in order to participate with their team in the Minor. However, Gambit Esports will allow Andrey “Afoninje” Afonin to travel to China to play alongside four Virtus.pro players and represent the Russian Flag at WESG. According to the team manager, back in October 2018, when Gambit signed ferzee the organization agreed to let Afoninje go to WESG. Back then he was already qualified for the $890,000 event in China with team Russia, but the schedule for the SLI minor was not known and Gambit didn’t forsee at that time that they will need to play in this upcoming Minor for a shot at the DreamLeague Season 11 Major.

From Gambit’s official statement:

“Gambit Esports made a decision to allow Afoninje to participate in the tournament in China. Should Gambit qualify for DreamLeague Major, we’ll attend with our starting line-up.”

Ivan Karpov, Gambit Esports Dota 2 team manager had the following to say:

“It’s a great opportunity for one of our members to play with such a strong team, learn about its communication and other in-game aspects.”

Rostislav “fn” Lozovoi, former Team Empire member, will stand in for Gambit Esports at the Minor.

The two tournaments will unfold through March 7-10 and Gambit Esports were not the only ones having to take a decision. Boom ID, qualified with the entire roster for both WESG and SLI dropped from the first in favor of the later. Vici Gaming did the exact same thing while the Brazilian player Rodrigo Lelis “Liposa” Santos gave up his spot at WESG in order to participate with Flying Penguins in the StarLadder ImbaTV Minor.
