In just 2 days the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor is set to get under way, but unfortunately for at least three teams, things are not working out the way they would hope. Gambit Esports as well as OG and Old But Gold have had players denied entry into Kiev, Ukraine.
Teams have begun to arrive in Kiev, Ukraine for the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor, but according to a post made by Gambit Esports, nearly their entire squad has been denied entry into the country and may not be able to compete in the event. The post goes on to explain that the team is heading back to Minsk where they will attempt to re-enter Kiev tomorrow.
The Gambit organisation also added that certain Old But Gold players as well as Igor ‘iLTW’ Filatov from OG are experiencing the same issues. Konstantin Pikiner had the following to say on the matter,
I can’t imagine how the tournament will run if representatives of an entire region will not be present, three teams might suffer because of it: Gambit Esports, OG and OBG. Minor in Kyiv is an important tournament for us. We and tournament organizers are not losing hope.”
So far no further information has been released as to why these players have been denied access into the country – but assumption remains that it is due to political tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
More on this story as it develops.
Update 1: Gambit Esports have just announced via their twitter that they have cleared customs and are now in their hotel, resting and ready for the Minor.
