North America regional qualifiers for The International 2019 reached the playoffs stage, which means that four teams are already out of contention for the one ticket to Shanghai, China.
compLexity Gaming, one of the biggest organizations in the region, struggled through the whole competitive year. Their roster suffered several changes at the beginning of the season, mainly due to Rolen Gabriel “Skemberlu” Ong’s immature behavior at his first ever Minor with the team. Following the Skem incident, coL continued to search for talent in Southeast Asia and ran into multiple visa issues. More often than not, they found themselves in the impossibility of gathering the whole team in the coL house for a proper training period and that reflected on their results. compLexity qualified through the 2018-2019 Dota Pro Circuit season to only one Major and two Minors, but haven’t had a strong performance at any of those tournaments.
Invited to the NA closed regional qualifiers for The International 2019, coL managed to win just two games through the two days of the group stages which was far from enough for them to advance into the qualifier playoffs.
NA’s dominant team at the end of the first two days of matches is Forward Gaming who advanced to the playoffs undefeated. They are the only team from all regionals to finish the group stage undefeated and will now start the playoffs from the favorite seat. Along with them, J.Storm, Beastcoast and Kookaburra will continue on the road to TI9. NA playoffs will commence later today, July 13 in a double elimination bracket, best of three games.
