ESL One Katowice 2019 begun today with all 12 teams fighting in their first best-of-two series. There were some interesting picks from many teams but there weren’t many surprises from either group – except maybe the Warlock pick from Team Secret.

The day begun with a monumental series between OG and Team Secret but after 2 games, there was no clear victor in sight, except me because of the excitement I felt to see Warlock being picked up by Team Secret. Clement ‘Puppey’ Ivanov drafted the barely-seen hero for himself and went completely deathless as they tied the series. Beyond that, the biggest losers for the group were For The Dream who saw defeat in both their series and would go into day 2 at the bottom of the group while the top 3 teams were all tied at 3-1 at the end of the day (Secret, OG and Gambit Esports).

Group B had one big stand out team through the day’s series – Chaos Esports Club. The ex-paiN Gaming squad opened up the day by taking down compLexity Gaming before they obliterated Aster Gaming too. For Aster, they were not looking great from their opening day, dropping both their series and sitting at the bottom of the group for now.

The biggest upset of the day, Ninjas in Pyjamas dropped a game to coL. coL overcame massive net worth deficit and utilized the Naga Siren song + Enigma Black Hole combination to push through an hour-long game 2 and claim victory.

Fnatic and Chaos managed to be the only 2 teams out of 12 in the tournament to have flawless day one’s at ESL One Katowice 2019. But tomorrow is a new day with new challenges for all the teams involved and we’ll see if anything changes on the leader board for each group.
