Southeast Asia’s lower division of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit League Season kicks off in just a few days but for Assault, they will not feature as they have been disqualified from the event.
For SEA, the qualifiers into the upper and lower division of the upcoming DPC League Season 1 were a bit different – having two separate closed qualifier stages which resulted in some teams being eliminated in the second stage. VISdota were disqualified during this event, due to the use of a banned player and now, one of the teams that had made it into the lower division have met the same fate. Originally named Void, Assault have been confirmed as disqualified, giving another team a chance in DPC League.
According to the Tweet above, and others shared by members of the Dota 2 community, the ban was implemented as a result of account sharing, thus seeing Assault lose their spot in the lower division. Taking their place would be the Indonesian roster of Army Geniuses who fell short in the second closed qualifier stage. However, the team will now get a shot at the DPC – with their first series being against Galaxy Racer on January 21st. The eight teams in the SEA lower division are now as follows:
- Army Geniuses
- Cignal Ultra
- Galaxy Racer
- Omega Esports
- Yangon Galacticos
It will be interesting to see if AG can make up for their poor qualifier stage showing now that they are in the lower division and maybe leapfrog the rest of the teams to reach the upper division when the season comes to an end.
