DreamLeague Season 12 had reached its final day with three teams remaining to fight for the title in Rotterdam when the day begun; Ninjas in Pyjamas, Alliance and Demon Slayers.

Yesterday we saw an extremely unlikely challenger emerge to send multiple teams home from the event, as Demon Slayers eliminated J.Storm before moving on to destroy Team Liquid too. The North American squad that joined the event after battling through open and closed qualifiers, prepared themselves for a brilliant underdog story when they started the final day in the lower bracket final against NiP. Even though NiP fought hard for the first game of the series, DS were not about to give up their amazing run as they left another team in their wake and entered the grand finals of DreamLeague Season 12.

Awaiting them in the grand finals were Alliance, who up until that point, were completely unbeaten – having not even dropped a single game in any series so far. The entire series was intense, with the two teams even playing the fastest game of the event – with DS taking a 24-minute game-two victory. However, even with a 2-0 start, DS were unable to close out the series and Alliance showed their power to come back to tie things up and give us a full five game grand final.

While Demon Slayers were able to take their opponents to the brink of a series loss, Alliance were just too strong when they had their backs against the wall. The final game was hard-fought from both sides and ended in some massive teamfights which could have swung in either team’s favour. But unfortunately for Demon Slayers, their underdog story would end with them claiming an extremely admirable second place finish.

For Alliance, the victory is a massive step in the right direction as they now look toward their next challenge at ESL One Hamburg 2019 later this week before the Dota 2 Pro Circuit’s first Major in Chengdu welcomes them.
