Geek Fam rebuilt their roster in the post TI9 shuffle and welcomed to their ranks three former TNC members along with the NA player Eric “Ryoya” Dong.
Although their new line-up looked strong on paper, and despite the fact that Southeast Asia lost a team during the big shuffle, while the region got three qualifier slots at the first Major of the season, Geek Fam still couldn’t clinch a spot at the MDL Chengdu. They got their second chance by qualifying for the DOTA Summit Minor, but unfortunately, the Minor run wasn’t smooth and they got knocked out only 5th-6th. The downtrend continued with the next qualifier round, where they once again lost the Major ticket.
Qualified for the WePlay! Bukovel Minor, it seems like Geek Fam want to shake things up with a roster change meant to improve their results. Ryoya was first to announce on Twitter his departure from the team.
Earlier today, the organization made an official announcement to welcome aboard Karl Jayme, who will take the mid lane position left open by Ryoya’s departure.
Geek Fam roster from position 1 to 5:
- Marc Polo Luis “Raven” Fausto
- Karl Jayme
- Carlo “Kuku” Palad
- Kenny “Xepher” Deo
- Kim “DuBu” Doo-young
The roster change after qualifying for the Minor comes with an additional penalty for Geek Fam.
As per Dota Pro Circuit rules, Geek Fam suffered a 20% deduction from the 100 points gathered through qualifiers matches and the Summit Minor. Additionally, they will incur a 20% deduction from the points earned at the WePlay! Bukovel Minor or the Leipzig Major if they claim the ticket for it in January.
