The StarLadder ImbaTV Invitaional #5 begun yesterday as 8 teams made their way to Kiev, Ukraine to take part in the penultimate Dota 2 Minor of the first season of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit.
The opening day saw Group A get under way with VGJ.Thunder, OpTic Gaming, Team Kinguin and FlyToMoon all playing for the top spot in the group – which came with a direct spot in the semi-finals. The opening games saw VGJ and OpTic take wins before OpTic claimed victory over the Chinese squad to take the top spot in the group and ensure themselves a top 4 finish at the Minor. This ensures the North Americans their first DPC points in the season as they await their opponents. The Elimination matches take place tomorrow as FTM and Kinguin fight for survival in the event before the winner fights once more against VGJ.Thunder.

Day 2 would see Group B getting under way with Fnatic, Natus Vincere, Vega Squadron and SG e-sports fighting for that top spot. The opening games saw a fantastic series between Fnatic and Na’Vi, a replay of their match at GESC: Indonesia a few weeks ago – this time it was Fnatic who were triumphant while in the next series, Vega were able to hold off an onslaught from SG and claim victory in their series. The final series of the day was another amazing one from both Vega and Fnatic which saw the CIS squad claim victory and their spot in the semi-finals along with a guaranteed top 4 finish at the SL ImbaTV Invitational #5. This will be Vega’s first DPC points too as they finished off the first 2-0 series at the event so far against Fnatic.

Tomorrow will see 4 teams eliminated from the Minor and the final two teams take their place in the semi-finals too as the group stages come to an end. The day opens with FTM and Kinguin followed by Na’Vi and SG – where the losing teams will be eliminated from the event while the winning teams will go through to the decider matches where elimination will be on the cards once more.
