After the end of day 3 of the main event we got treated to the 1v1 solo tournament which placed 8 top players from 8 different teams up against each other.

The 1v1 tournament would see players from Virtus, pro, Team Liquid, Team Secret, Evil Geniuses, Newbee, LGD Gaming, Vici Gaming and VGJ.Thunder fighting it out in single elimination Shadowfiend mirror-matches before a best-of-three final. Defending champion, Zhang ‘Paparazi’ Chengjun and his team Vici Gaming were knocked into the lower bracket just prior to the 1v1’s beginning but would need to be ready to make some Shadowfiend plays if he wanted to hold his title. Last year we saw Paparazi defeat Sumail, Sccc and Miracle to claim the title – this year he would have to work even harder if he wanted to defend his title.

Liu ‘Sylar’ Jiajun proved no problem for him in the first round but at the same time we saw Lu ‘Maybe’ Yao take down Song ‘Sccc’ Chun in under 90 seconds before Syed Sumail ‘Suma1L’ Hassan killed Vladimir ‘No[o]ne’ Minenko in just 45 seconds – although the EG player did call GG before getting the kill, he was still given the victory (maybe they felt that NA Dota needed a victory). But it wouldn’t last long as he was knocked out in the next round by Yeik ‘MidOne’ Nai Zheng who proceeded into the final where he was joined by Paparazi who managed to take down Maybe.

The finals were set, both players stared down mid-lane at each other and the Shadowraze fighting begun. After a total of 15 minutes in total over 2 games, Paparazi proved his dominance in the 1v1 tournament and defended his title. The player earns himself 30,000 RMB but I’m sure that weighing on his mind more is the upcoming best-of-one matchup with which will decide both team’s fate for the rest of DAC 2018.

The 1v1 tournament closed out day 3 of the main event at DAC 2018 and tomorrow we will see 2 more teams eliminated – alongside this we’ll also witness the All-Star Match to close out the day. Don’t miss all the action.
