Ghost Gaming has revealed a multi-year extension with star AWPer Matthew “WARDELL” Yu. In a press release on November 12, Ghost revealed the player would be returning for a “third consecutive year, signing a multi-year agreement.”
The official announcement goes on to list the team’s accomplishments during WARDELL’s time with the organization alongside some of his impressive stats.
“In 2018 alone, WARDELL has totaled 2,624 kills, 1,671 of those wills coming by way of sniper. Known for securing clutch victories, 58 in 2018 already, WARDELL has helped Ghost secure recent victories over Natus Vincere, NiP, MIBR, and NRG. It has been landmark victories like these that have recently propelled Ghost Gaming to fourth in North American CS:GO rankings.”
The CEO of Ghost Gaming, Matt Dillon shared his thoughts on the Ghost veteran as well stating, “I believe WARDELL has become one of the world’s premier CS:GO athletes. He is a talent we believe in and are thrilled he has re-committed to Ghost Gaming. We are looking forward to several years full of amazing AWP kills and clutch victories.”
The squad currently holds a 15-3 record in Season Eight of ESL Pro Leagues North American division, having already secured a spot in the playoffs. The team will take on Cloud9 tonight and playoffs aren’t good enough for WARDELL and co., as he looks to take home first place for the season.
“Playing @Cloud9 tonight for @ESLCS, trying to be number one in pro league even tho we made playoffs already,” he tweeted out earlier this morning.
With Ghost Gaming’s rise to a real North American contender and Cloud9’s spiral downward since the Boston Major, it’s certainly possible.
