With the recent announcement of Fatih “gob b” Dayik’s retirement from competitive Counter-Strike, BIG has revealed another roster change, welcoming back two players.
Owen “smooya” Butterfield and Johannes “nex” Maget are set to return to the active BIG lineup. With two players returning another is required to depart and that player is Denis “denis” Howell.
smooya will be replacing denis and taking over the AWP role according to the official announcement.
Also, while nex has been revealed as the teams fifth, he will not be stepping in immediately. The player who stepped away due to an injury in May is still in the process of recovering and will return once his rehabilitation is complete. In his place will be Nikola “LEGIJA” Ninić.
Another change to the squad comes with the departure of Alexander “kakafu” Szymanczyk from the coaching role with an announcement coming “in the upcoming weeks” regarding this position.
According to Daniel Finkler, CEO of BIG, “2019 has been a challenging year so far, but every difficult situation comes with opportunities to make the right decisions.”
BIG’s Chief Gaming Officer Christian Lenz elaborated on the decisions made moving forward as part of the official announcement:
“We took our time to evaluate the best possible roster for the second half of 2019, which will feature the return of the “UK hope” smooya and our founding member nex. Owen worked hard for his second chance, so did nex for his comeback. Of course, I’m sad about gob not being in the team anymore, he is a longtime friend of mine and was the reason of our success in the past, but we will see him soon in another important position in BIG. Let’s go BIG! #gemeinsam”
