North American favorites Team Liquid have earned their place in the IEM Sydney Group A upper bracket. The team did it with relative ease, not giving up double-digit rounds in any of their three maps.
The squad battled BOOT-d[S] in their opener. Taking on the majority Singaporean roster on Nuke, Liquid took the map 16-9, the closest of their three maps in the group stage.
Next up was BIG Clan in a best-of-three to decide who would move into the upper bracket. The German squad selected Dust2 as their map, the first of the series. It wouldn’t work in their favor, however, as Liquid would storm off to a 12-3 halftime lead. BIG would make their attempt at a comeback by picking up the pistol and the following three rounds, but then it was all Liquid once again as they pieced together four of their own for the 16-7 win.
Liquid’s pick of Overpass would be even worse for Fatih “gob b” Dayik and company as they would once again lose the half 12-3. This time, however, there would be no comeback, no matter how small as Liquid secured the second half pistol and put the map away 16-3 for a 2-0.
Liquid will now have to wait and watch for who will be meeting them to decide who moves into the playoffs on top.
