It’s a return to the top for the Danes of Astralis as they reclaim the number 1 spot in the HLTV team rankings for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Having been dethroned by Team Liquid several months ago, Astralis had never been out of contention to steal the title back thanks to consistent top-four finishes.
Evil Geniuses had managed to slide in and take the spot following some top finishes of their own including winning ESL One New York and StarSeries i-League Season 8. A poor follow up performance to New York at DreamHack Masters Malmö coupled with an early exit at the recent IEM Beijing gave Astralis the perfect opportunity.
Astralis managed an undefeated run at IEM Beijing which saw them crowned champions and achieve the rank of best team in the world once again.
This is Astralis’ first tournament win since they took home the Major trophy in Berlin at the StarLadder Major 2019.
Astralis isn’t sitting too comfortably though with Evil Geniuses only 152 points ahead with EG holding a one tournament advantage in terms of their upcoming schedule.
Both squads will be in attendance at the ECS Season 8 Finals in Arlington, Texas in late November. They are, however, in opposite groups as was revealed earlier today.
Next week’s CS:GO Asia Championships will be an opportunity for EG to close the gap as they move into the ECS finals ahead of the last events of the year.
But for now, it’s Astralis’ world.
