Ranked Roles Matchmaking Returns to Dota 2 with the Dota Plus End of Summer Update

The day The International 2018 Battlepass ended, r/Dota2 was full of posts asking Valve to bring back the ranked roles matchmaking. It was one of the best features of the Battlepass and it ensured balance in the team instead of a team ending up with 5 cores. The prayers of the community have been answered by Valve as ranked roles matchmaking is back with Dota Plus! This was what the update had to say:

In the wake of the thrilling conclusion to The International and the culmination of the Battle Pass season, today’s update is focused on bringing some of that summer fun into the perks of Dota Plus.

Leading the way, the Ranked Roles matchmaking queue has been added to Dota Plus. To mark the occasion, we’ve added a welcome quest where players who win 5 times in the Ranked Roles queue will earn 5000 shards.

We’ve also moved In-Game Tipping into Dota Plus, letting you celebrate the joyous moments of battle by sending some free Shards an ally’s or enemy’s way in recognition of their contributions to the game.

Express yourself year-round with select Sound Effects, which are now unlockable with Shards. Once unlocked, you’ll have access to these sounds while your Dota Plus membership is active.

Finally, as a special end-of-summer bonus, any Dota Plus member who plays 4 games this weekend can claim an extra 10,000 Shard reward.

Ranked Roles Matchmaking

It had been a while since Dota Plus received a good update and this one will for sure convince you to get Dota Plus if you haven’t already. That is, given the fact you like playing ranked games. Ranked roles matchmaking is no doubt, a blessing for anyone who does not want the unnecessary chaos involved in deciding roles at the start of the game and the fights arising from it. Roles are defined and if a player does not stick to his/her role, they can get reported by the team. This adds a lot of balance to the game and ensures players do not get tilted before the game begins!

Chatwheel Sounds

Valve also added a few chatwheel sounds fom the Battlepass to Dota Plus. Now, I’m sure at first glance, what popped into everyone’s mind was ‘Lakaaad Matataaaag’. But sadly, that’s not the case. The chatwheel sounds are basic ones and that makes sense. The special ones are to be reserved for The International Battlepass!

Besides these two changes, a few small things like in-game tipping of shards has also been added. The best thing about this update is that it shows that the community was heard and that Valve cares about the community. Time to queue up some ranked roles matchmaking..as a mid laner of course!
