In December last year Blizzard made a tactical, albeit poor, decision to shut down its Heroes of the Storm competitive scene. The announcement blindsided teams and players and was heralded as being the start of the company’s downfall. However, with the recent announcement of layoffs within Activision Blizzard, there also came a HotS teaser.

In a very G.I. Joe-esque video titled “Join the Resistance” posted to Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm YouTube page last night, it would seem as though the developers have definitely still been at work on the game. The video shows new skins for the likes of Hanzo, Blaze and Deckard Cain as well as a throwback to the “Boston Dynamics” robotic dog and the shadow of Sally Whitemane, High Inquisitor of the Scarlet Crusade looming near the end.
While this does not say much for where the game may be going, it still seems to have a really strong following and a great community who want to see it excel. The video also has a rather interesting Morse Code inlaid into it, which when deciphered gives us the old Deckard Cain adage, “Stay a while and listen”.
With the restructuring within Activision Blizzard currently ongoing, it will be interesting to see just how much of their resources and time will go into HotS in the future – but for now, Blizzard seem to be alive and kicking.
