It’s been a phenomenal week for Respawn’s battle royale Apex Legends. The game launched on Feb. 4 and has had a skyrocketing success, breaking records along the way.

Just eight hours after it launched, Apex Legends was boasting 1M players already and the number had grown to 2.5M by the end of the day. By day 3, the number was up to 10M and now it’s more than doubled one week in.

In an official update, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella confirmed that Apex Legends has broken 25M players since launch. Zampella also shared plans for Valentine’s Day themed loot as well as reminded that Season One will begin in March, also introducing the Apex Legends Battle Pass.

“Over the weekend we had well over 2 million concurrent players at our peak,” added Zampella, highlighting another milestone for the game.

This is nothing less than a tremendous growth for Apex Legends. Although the battle royale genre leader Fortnite is currently at 200M players — far ahead of Apex’s numbers — it took Epic Games’ product two weeks to reach 10M, growing at a quarter of the speed Apex Legends currently is. The difference, of course, comes with the more developed market since Fortnite launched in 2017, but Respawn and EA have all the reasons to be joyous nonetheless.

Apex’s player numbers have directly translated to Twitch success as well. The game has held the #1 rank on the platform since launch, and the amount of channels broadcasting the game is still growing, as are the hours watched on a daily basis. Esports organizations like NRG Esports and Team SoloMid have also started recruiting players and content creators to join their ranks, so an esports scene might soon develop.
