Red Bull hosted an Age of Empires II tournament in April 2020 with a new format: Empire Wars. The format has the game starting in Feudal age with 27 villagers, a barracks and a stable and Loom researched. The first iteration had a prize pool of €20,000, and it turned out to be a successful event, which was won by Mr_Yo with a 4-0 vicotry over TheViper in the best-of-7 grand final. Now, Red Bull Wololo is back, but with a much bigger prize pool of $30,000!

The format seems to be the same as last time – 1 v 1 Empire Wars in a single elimination bracket. The bracket will consist of a total of 16 players, with eight players invited and eight making it through the qualifiers. The eight direct invites have already gone out to the top players in the game.

The list of invitees sees just one change from the first Red Bull Wololo -LaaaaaN takes Dogao’s place. Dogao was invited in April and was the only invited player to be ousted by a player who made it through the qualifiers, which was Laaaaan. That victory has been duly rewarded with a direct invite for Red Bull Wololo II.

The first set of qualifiers will take place on the weekend of 7th and 8th of August, which will determine four of the eight players coming through the qualifiers. The remaining four will be decided through the second qualifer, on the 15th and 16th of August. The main event will be a four day marathon from the 20th to the 23rd of August.

The winner of the tournament will walk away with $8,000, second place will take home $5,000 with third place ending up $3,000 richer. The announcement of Red Bull Wololo II has certainly spiced up things in the world of AoE II esports. August is going to be a month of a lot of Age of Empires action. Hopefully, the second iteration provides just as much as entertainment as the first one.
