Following the elimination of Invictus Gaming from OGA Dota PIT Season 2: China, it was time for the upper bracket finals with CDEC Gaming going head-to-head against Vici Gaming for a spot in the grand final.
During the group stages of OGA Dota PIT Season 2: China, nether CDEC Gaming or Vici Gaming performed extremely well, both only finding victory in a single series – which was technically enough to push them into the playoffs. CDEC’s only victory was registered when they took down VG then and they would be looking to have a repeat performance today, but VG had completely turned things around since reaching the playoffs.
A full three-game series was what we expected from these two juggernauts of the Chinese Dota 2 scene and that is exactly what we got as they battled it out for the first spot in the grand finals. VG were the first to strike, outplaying the lockdown heavy CDEC lineup in what was a fairly quiet game in which Zhang ‘Eurus’ Chengjun’s Terrorblade was able to farm up without much contest and as such, helped secure a series lead.
However, CDEC mounted their comeback in game two, in a far more back-and-forth game, which saw VG have their early lead stripped away from them in a single team-fight soon after 20-minutes. From then, although they managed to take down Wang ‘Ame’ Chunyu’s Terrorblade, it was CDEC’s game and the series was tied at 1-1. With Terrorblade showing up for a third time, it seemed as though it would be the final straw required for a series as it went to VG. Although the hero did not see much action in the decisive game, VG rallied behind their carry and secured a victory in a 38-minutes.
The win will see Vici Gaming secure a day break and the first spot in the grand finals of OGA Dota PIT Season 2: China, while CDEC will have to face off against Royal Never Give Up in the lower bracket finals tomorrow and hope to repeat their previous performance against them if they wanted another shot against VG at the event.
