Geoff “iNcontroL” Robinson, one of the most recognized faces in StarCraft 2 and a legend of a caster and entertainer, passed away Saturday, July 20, his official Twitter confirmed. He was only 33.
“With immense grief, we announce Geoff’s unexpected passing due to sudden illness Saturday.”
A StarCraft player back from the BroodWar days, iNcontroL has been an inseparable part of the RTS franchise for over a decade. Since the launch of the StarCraft 2 beta, he’s been actively competing and, later, transitioned into a casting, analyst, streamer, and entertainer roles.
It is through the latter four that iNcontroL grew to prominence, delivering unmistakable, characteristic humor and banter to the desk. Since 2015, he’s been a constant presence on the WCS circuit as commentator and has provided analysis to the last four WCS Global Finals – the highest stage of StarCraft 2 competition.
iNcontroL’s family gave no reason for his passing besides the “sudden illness” but said they will be sharing “worlds of remembrance when they are ready”.
