ESL One Hamburg 2019 is just around the corner and while we still do not have a full lineup of teams participating, one team has decided to pull out from the event – Geek Fam.
Geek Fam announced their full new roster barely a month ago with a reuniting of Carlo ‘Kuku’ Palad and Marc Polo ‘Raven’ Luis Fausto and ever since then the Southeast Asian squad have been working hard to find their footing before the start of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit season begins. While the squad failed to make it into the Chengdu Major, they would give themselves a chance to get there by qualifying as the SEA representative for the Dota 2 Summit 11 Minor. Prior to this qualification, Geek Fam qualified to ESL One Hamburg 2019, which begins its group stage next week. However, unfortunately for the squad, they have had to withdraw from the event due to Visa issues.
Announced via their Twitter account a short time ago, Geek Fam confirmed that they would be unable to attend the event. Visa issues have been prevalent in Dota 2 for a long time, with teams and players often unable to acquire them in time for massive events – and this is another case of it. With the Minor taking place in Los Angeles, the team will be focusing on getting their Visas prepared for that event instead but that they would follow up with more news soon.
Currently there has been no word from ESL One on who will be the replacement for Geek Fam in Hamburg and with such a short time before the event kicks off, it will be difficult for many teams from the SEA region to acquire a Visa for the event. There are now effectively two unannounced spots for the tournament and we await word from the organisers on who will join the lineup of world class teams at ESL One Hamburg 2019.
