South American Dota 2 has been on the rise for some time now with the likes of paiN Gaming being at the forefront of their growth. However, late into the Dota 2 Pro Circuit season came a new challenger from the region – a team that seemed like they could definitely challenge even the best, Team Anvorgesa.
StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 2 was where we witnessed this team’s brilliance where they took a brilliant 4th place finish. While it was not enough to boost them into a Major, it got them noticed and just a few weeks after the Minor, they were picked up under the Infamous organization. Under their new banner, they took to the South American qualifiers for The International 2019 and dominated up until paiN got the better of them in the Upper Bracket finals. But the squad showed their resolve, making it to the grand finals, annihilating paiN and earning their spot at TI9.
- Hector Antonio ‘K1’ Rodriguez
- Jean Pierre ‘Chris Luck’ Gonzales
- Adrian Cespedes ‘Wisper’ Dobles
- Elvis ‘Scofield’ De la Cruz Peña
- Steven ‘Stinger’ Vargas
While TI9 will be no easy task, being the only South American team there will be huge for Infamous and with all five players making it to the prestigious event for the first time, they will have everything to play for.
Hector Antonio ‘K1’ Rodriguez
Most of the players on this Infamous roster have been through many of the same teams, playing alongside one another for a few years. Having never attended a major Valve event apart from two Minors this season, this is a massive step for K1. At only 18 years of age, K1 will be stepping out onto the biggest stage of Dota 2, The International, hoping to carry the South American hopes and dreams as far as possible.
Jean Pierre ‘Chris Luck’ Gonzales
Much like K1, Chris Luck begun his Dota 2 journey with Gorillaz-Pride, a squad before moving onto other teams in the region. Again, similarly to K1, he has never entered a Valve event the likes of The International, having only played at the OGA Dota PIT Minor and StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor season 2. As the team’s mid lane player, a lot rests on his shoulders but with a fantastic squad behind him, Infamous could cause some major upsets.
Adrian Cespedes ‘Wisper’ Dobles
The only non-Peruvian on the squad, Wisper has actually been on a previously been within the Infamous ranks – last year, in fact. Early in the DPC season Wisper was involved in Infamous taking a 4th place finish at the first Minor, DreamLeague Season 10, before being replaced. However, his return now after the organization acquired Team Anvorgesa has seen him help the team reach TI9 and the stakes are at an all-time high.
Elvis ‘Scofield’ De la Cruz Peña
Scofield is possibly one of the more well-known of players from South America, having played for many of the region’s up-and-coming teams over the years, including a long stint at Infamous when the organization initially formed. The player had almost made it to TI8 alongside Thunder Predator – the team had won the SA regional qualifiers, but after a huge amount of drama, they were then disqualified due to a player using scripts. This time he has made it and the TI battleground awaits him.
Steven ‘Stinger’ Vargas
Stinger is also one of the more known players on the Infamous squad, and again, has played for the team previously too. Having played at a few Majors in last year’s DPC, Stinger will be hoping to finally make an impact on TI – and we’re all hoping to see it happen too.
Being the only South American team at such an amazing event is definitely a massive undertaking, but after seeing this Infamous squad perform when they were still Anvorgesa, there’s no doubt that they will cause a huge stir and play their hearts out. Their whole squad will be there for the first time and you can be sure that they will fly that SA banner high in just under a month.
We’re barely a month away from The International 2019 kicking off and to keep up with all the teams and information, don’t forget to check out our TI9 hub. We also still have our fantastic competition running for all the readers which you can find below.
